Boxing
1. Basic Exercise---29 postures in all. Fundamental preparatory movements for beginners to practice: basic fist work, leg work as well as stance work.
2. XuanGong Boxing---3 routines including all the wudang basic fist work, leg work as well as stance work. They are primary level characterized by simplicity and practicalness.
3. Fuhu Chuan (tiger-taming boxing)---65 postures in all. It is also called Xianglong FuHu Chuan (tiger-taming and dragon- subduing boxing). It is one kind of boxing for Taoist to train most often. It is mainly featured by many complicated fist work assisted with leg work.
4. Bachi Chuan (eight-extremes boxing)---47 postures in all. There is a very popular saying as “applying gentle Tai Chi to manage the country; using fierce Bachi to control0 the domain”. Bachi Chuan is characterized by its vigor and explosive way to excerise its power. The movements are rather swift, vigorous, violent and steady. It can be used for long-distance attack as well as short-distance defense.
5. Tanglang Chuan (mantis-style boxing)---40 postures in all. It is a kind of form-imitating boxing, which adopts the defensive features of mantis as well as wudang wushu fundamental Kung fu work. Attack and defense both are controlled in varying degree, while the attack are swift and effective in deployment.
6. XuanZhen Chuan (Xuanzhen boxing)---41 postures in all. It is also a kind of elementary work characterized by simplicity and practicalness, containing most wudang basic fist work, leg work as well step work.
7. Longhua Chuan (Longhua boxing)---28 postures in all. Mount Wudang can be divided into southern wudang and northern wudang. As we often say, the south is famous for the fist applicaton while the north is famous for the leg application. Longhua boxing is of northern wudang Kung fu. It is mainly characterized by leg movements assisted with essential fist work.
8. Xuanwu Chuan (Xuanwu boxing)---53 postures in all. It is also called Two Symbols Boxing, which comes from the saying, “the coordination of Yin and Yang gives birth to Tai Chi, and the separation of the two leads to Two Symbols.” Among this boxing, the advantages of “Yin” and “Yang” can both be felt. Some of the movements are rather swift while some are relatively slow; some are hard while some are quite supple. This is why we call it “ Two Symbols”. It is a kind of kungfu which can be used to train hands, eyes, body, basic work as well as to enhance explosive strength (explosive force and bouncing ability).
9. BaGua Zhang (eight diagrams palms)---8 sub-categories in all within which 8 movements were contained in each sub-categoy. Bagua Zhang is one kind of internal Kung fu, as it perfectly employs the laws of Five Elements’ growing and transformation as well as the increase and decrease pattern of Yin and Yang. Based on the movements of walking in a circle, this art proceeds just as the knack says, “like doing grinding, Bagua Zhang transforms its positions and movements as in a maze.” Old Bagua palm, round body Bagua palm, Bagua chain palms are the most famous ones. As to old Bagua palm, it quite demands to be in compliance with exact degree of body flexibility. When in practice, the body should move naturally like wading mud and full concentration is required. It is beneficial for strengthening body, and also useful for defense as well as health preservation.
10. Shing-I Boxing (form-and-will boxing)---about 22 postures in all. It is also called form-and-will chain boxing, which is composed of cuts, straight blows, swings, oblique-thrusts, corkscrew blows and so on. The movements are simple, succinct but effective in combat.
