There are twelve large stele pavilions preserved in Wudang Mountain, which is the only phenomenon in China Taoist buildings, also the symbol of highest rank building.
In every pavilion there is a big tortoise backing an imperial stele, which is one form of ancient posy, to show that in Chinese ancient traditional culture, only the big tortoise was qualified to deliver important orders to the people.
The stele pavilion often has a mountain-like roof, four doors at the four directions, red walls and green tiles. The stone carving of the tortoise with imperial stele on its back is very large, usually as high as ten meters, as heavy as over 100 tons.
On the large stele inscribed imperial orders. The tortoise is just going to move with the large imperial order stele on its back, as vividly as living, which is the rare artistic work of stone carving in the world, very precious.
